I selected a picture of my mother I took a couple of years ago. She has always been an inspiration for me with all the achievements she has made. The Spanish phrase “dar a luz” has also inspired this project. Although it means to “give birth,” it directly translates to “giving light.” So for the background, I chose a bright light.
My eyes rest on the hand as it reaches the audience when I look at this piece. Utilizing vertical lines, I was able to create a velvet texture for the dress. I used curved lines for the hair, beads, and top frill of the dress. I left highlights with the dots in the background creating implied lines. The highlights are radial lines that generate movement from the face outward. I created an atmospheric perspective by making the woman darker and more detailed, contrasting the blurry light background. The halo accentuating her face helps create depth. I created this powerful piece to demonstrate the light and spark radiating from everyone.
