I chose an emotional scene from the movie Maleficent. Maleficent is a powerful fairy who leads a magical forest in harmony and peace. The scene I choose is where Maleficent’s wings get taken from her. This scene is a metaphor for rape. Stefan, a close friend of Maleficent, drugs her to sleep and then cuts off her wings to gain the throne as the new king. This violent event leads her to become dark and lose her softness.

Each scene grows darker with more contrast to express the mood of each picture. The first scene is Maleficent at the beginning of the movie with her wings. The second scene is the morning after her wings are taken. It is the moment she wakes up and realizes her wings were taken from her. The last scene is a few moments after the second scene, where she is screaming out in pain. This last scene captures all of the emotion so clearly for the audience. This movie is about a woman reclaiming her power—the story of a rape victim overcoming what was done to her.
