This piece is a celebration of Moroccan design, where geometric structure and organic detail meet in a really harmonious way. Interlocking stars, diamonds, and arrow motifs sit at the heart of the composition, each one filled with stylized floral elements that echo the delicate ornamentation found in traditional zellige tilework. The palette — maroon, mustard yellow, teal, black, and soft touches of gold — creates a warm, earthy rhythm, while the small white dots add a subtle brightness that pulls everything forward.

There’s a quiet balance to the symmetry here, the kind that invites you to slow down and take in the repetition, almost like a visual meditation. Even though the patterns are rooted in centuries-old Islamic craftsmanship, the piece carries a more contemporary softness, blending sacred geometry with natural beauty in a way that feels personal and reflective.

I created this during a Moroccan Design short course at the King’s School of Traditional Arts, where I learned egg tempera and worked entirely with earth pigments. The main design was based on an existing pattern from the course, but I adapted part of it for the sides of the box — adding cables and a central flower to give it its own character. To finish, I laid gold leaf along the edges and the center, giving the whole piece a gentle, luminous touch.
