My inspiration was transformations and feminine power. Moon phases correspond to the monthly cycle of a woman's menstrual cycle, indicating its connection to feminine energy. The crescent moon is seen at the beginning and end of the moon's phases, demonstrating the end of something and the beginning of something new. It reminds us that growth and transformation are essential to being able to embark on new adventures.

The lotus flower is a sacred symbol of enlightenment and rebirth. When the symbols of the lotus and the moon are together, they indicate enlightenment in darkness or feminine power. Like the bud of a lotus flower that emerges from the mud to blossom into a beautiful flower, butterflies transform from caterpillars into gloriously beautiful flying insects. This metamorphosis is the perfect metaphor for rebirth.

A waxing crescent moon is referred to as the rebuilding phase, a time to recharge to be ready to embrace goals. The collective waxing crescent moons on the bottom left corner illustrate this phase, as the butterfly is then ready to start moving and get even larger, leading to the enlightenment of the lotus flower. My eyes rest on the lotus at the top right intersection of the checkerboard. The vertical line leads me down to the symmetrical butterflies, which then create a movement across the piece to the cropped lotus flower.
